DE17 Weather Station Upgrade -  Our station has undergone an upgrade of it's control computer. This should prove much more reliable since it is a brand new unit and is also equiped with battery back-up. Online, you won't notice much difference except the station should stay online, power outages or not.

The station uploads current conditions at Sugar Hill every 5 minutes, to Weather Underground. Just go to http://wunderground.com and enter "de17" in the search box. From your mobile device or iPhone, enter http://m.wund.com or http://i.wund.com respectively.    7/19/2010

N485SF  is back in the air after a lengthy stay in the hangar for engine repairs, etc. Skip took the <300 lb. Kolb up on 5/31/2010 despite a fair amount of wind. I'm sure he's glad to have her back!

NC3449E took to the air over DE17, for the 1st time since July 29, 2008, on Sunday, May 2, 2010. She flew well hands off, considering somwhat less than calm conditions. An attempt to do away with the rudder trim tab failed. Constantly holding a taste of right rudder will probably cause re-installation. Otherwise, the rigging seems to be right on the money.  I'm sure she's glad to finally be out of the hangar! Many thanks to Bill and his family without whom this project would be going on for another 18 months. Thanks to Tony Markl and Dan O'Donnell for thier expertise.  It was fun, but I'm sure glad this project is over!  -Chris

3/21/2010 - DE17 Weather station is back online @ http://wunderground.com

3/6/10 - Getting much closer, but will it ever REALLY be done?

2/22/2010      Getting closer -

1/12/2010 - DE17 Wx station is offline and has been for a while. Repairs will be complete soon. If you attempt to access the station through wunderground.com, be advised it defaults to the next closest station. You may not get the weather you expect!

1/10/2010  -  NC3449E Tail is just about done. Headliner next and the cockpit will be done.

Aeronca Update 10/30/09 - Fuselage Done!

FYI - Sugar Hill is Now on Facebook!

Hanging in the Hangar 9/2009

Aeronca Update 6/1/2009

The Aeronca wings made it home. Tail surfaces have been back at the hangar for a while. The fuselage is now in the paint bay. I guess there is light at the end of the restoration tunnel!

Sugar Hill Memorial Day Picnic Pics

Thanks to Russ for doing all the picnic shopping, and Tony for doing the cooking. Also, thanks to all who brought goodies.  It was a great time. We should do it more often!

Sugar Hill Airport Memorial Day Picnic is kicking off at about 1000,  May 23rd. Come and enjoy a dog or burger with plenty of hangar talk!

Thanks much to Bill for arranging to have the Sugar Hills pilots tour Dover AFB yesterday. Reports are that it was a great time and very informative. Thanks again Bill!

If you check the weather at DE17 online, you may have noticed that the wind data has been missing for hours at a time over the past few days. We've narrowed it down to a bad sending unit on Tony's hanger. I ordered a new one today and it'll be up in about a week. When the current unit works, it is accurate. You just can't depend on it 24/7.

2/22/2009

I know this doesn't look much different than the previously posted pic, but you'll notice there is no more zinc primer. It's all new SuperFlite epoxy primer. The fuselage is just about ready to go to the fabric shop. The wings are basically done, and I'll post some pics when I get them back to DE17 from the paint shop at 33N.

12/10/2008

Well, the Aeronca didn't make it back into service on time. At the moment, the tail surfaces are covered and painted, the wings are scattered around the area (one at the fabric shop and one at the paint shop), and the fuselage hasn't changed much from the picture below. I can tell now, it's going to take a lot longer than I thought. Guess I'll have it back by spring! -Chris

9/9/2008

If anyone wants to know what happened to Chris' Aeronca, see the pic below. It is currently in Bill's hanger, but should be up and flying again this fall with new fabric and paint, among other things. I'm guessing sometime mid-November. We'll see...

Pilots: Get your weather online at http://wunderground.com/ . In the search box, just enter the airport identifier DE17, or cut and paste this direct link: http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=de17 . You get weather data from our station on site. Wind data comes from the hanger roof nearest the midfield wind sock. Pressure, temp, humidity, and rainfall data sensors are located on a  5 ft post approximately 200 ft east of the runway which is no factor. From your mobile device, access the station from http://m.wund.com.

The cost of rolling the runway this year is $25 per pilot, payable to Russ. He prefers cash!

DE17 window stickers are available. These high quality orange triangular stickers look great in the rear window of your vehicle, or on your aircraft. The first one is free to Sugarhill pilots. Additional stickers are $4 each. Contact: chris@de17.org

The runway was rolled again this year by Russ, and he did a great job. It is much smoother, if you have not already tried it out. The cost is yet to be determined. Russ will let us know each pilot's share when the bill comes in.
